As has been reported recently Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn have submitted their planning application for their 1,350MW Cenos floating wind project to the The Scottish Government.
They have also entered into an agreement to acquire the planned 1.4GW NorthConnect interconnector project between Scotland and Norway. This would see Cenos acting as part of an Offshore Hybrid Asset (OHA) with the potential to trade electricity to either the UK or Norwegian markets.
The recent INTOG Recommended Design (see our slide below) from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) shows this link between Cenos and Norway.
While the partners have not committed to building the interconnector this deal allows them to utilise the onshore and offshore planning consents that NorthConnect has already been granted. This means that Cenos has part of its planning consent already in place i.e. the onshore HVDC convertor station as well as onshore and offshore cable routes. Now that is a very shrewd move and has allowed them to speed up their overall planning application process.
