Quest FWE Upgrades Floating Wind Projects

With the entry of large contractors such as Aker Solutions and Kvaerner into the Floating Wind Industry, some of the longer-term projects are realistically moving towards large scale commercialization. Their extensive project management experience with capital intensive, logistically complex and long lead time projects in the offshore O&G industry are a welcome addition to that of floater designers Principle Power and Ideol Offshore. Notably, Ideol was recently also joined by Acacia Renewables in a full scale multi-100MW commercial project in Japan.

As a consequence, Q FWE has upgraded relevant projects to ‘current’, a status that a project normally progresses to from ‘possible’ once a number of “viability indicators” have been satisfied. The projects’ data is fed into the website where datasheets can be downloaded.

The Q FWE Project Database now includes 27 current projects, representing close to 1GW capacity installed at end of 2025, a capacity that will be divided over 120 FTUs (Floating Turbine Units)”. Another 50 or so ‘possible’ status projects are recorded which are in early stages of planning or development.
